Venous Doppler Ultrasound Scan (DVT)
ABOUT THIS TEST
The Venous Doppler Ultrasound Scan (DVT) is a non-invasive vascular imaging test used to assess blood flow within the veins and to investigate for deep vein thrombosis (DVT). It provides real-time Doppler imaging to identify blood clots and assess venous circulation.
This scan is particularly important for individuals with leg pain, swelling, redness, warmth, or sudden changes suggestive of a blood clot. Early detection supports prompt treatment and reduces the risk of complications such as pulmonary embolism.
Suitable for individuals with symptoms suggestive of DVT, recent immobility, surgery, pregnancy, or other risk factors for venous thrombosis.
- GP-led review
- Clinical imaging report with expert interpretation
- Clear guidance on next steps
- High-resolution ultrasound performed by qualified clinicians
WHAT THIS SCAN ASSESSES
- Deep and superficial veins
- Blood flow within the veins
- Presence or absence of blood clots
- Vein compressibility
- Signs of venous obstruction
FAQs
1. How can this Scan help me ?
+
This scan can:
Detect or rule out deep vein thrombosis
Assess venous blood flow and obstruction
Support urgent clinical decision-making
Guide treatment or referral if a clot is detected
Provide reassurance where findings are normal
It is suitable for individuals with symptoms or risk factors suggestive of DVT.
