Arterial Doppler Ultrasound Scan
ABOUT THIS TEST
The Arterial Doppler Ultrasound Scan is a non-invasive vascular imaging test used to assess blood flow through the arteries, most commonly in the arms or legs. It provides real-time Doppler imaging to evaluate circulation, vessel patency, and arterial health.
This scan is particularly helpful for identifying arterial narrowing, reduced blood flow, blockages, or other circulatory abnormalities. It supports early detection of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and helps guide further management where required.
Suitable for individuals with leg or arm pain on walking, cold extremities, non-healing wounds, diabetes, cardiovascular risk factors, or symptoms suggestive of poor circulation.
- GP-led review
- Clinical imaging report with expert interpretation
- Clear guidance on next steps
- High-resolution ultrasound performed by qualified clinicians
WHAT THIS SCAN ASSESSES
- Arterial structure and patency
- Blood flow velocity and direction
- Areas of narrowing or blockage
- Signs of peripheral arterial disease
- Circulation in upper or lower limbs
FAQs
1. How can this Scan help me ?
+
This scan can:
Assess blood flow to the limbs
Identify narrowing or blockages in arteries
Support diagnosis of peripheral arterial disease
Guide treatment or referral if circulation is impaired
Provide reassurance where arterial flow is normal

2. How is the scan performed?
+
In Clinic:
You will be positioned comfortably on the examination couch
Ultrasound gel is applied to the abdomen and scrotal area
A handheld probe is moved gently over each area to capture live images
The procedure is painless and typically takes 25–35 minutes
At Home (Home Visit):
A clinician visits your home with portable ultrasound equipment
The scan is performed in the same way as in clinic, offering added convenience

3. How long do results take?
+
Most arterial Doppler scans take approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on whether one or both limbs are assessed.
4. Will I receive help interpreting my results?
+

A clinical imaging report
Expert interpretation
Clear recommendations on next steps, if required
