Bones rarely complain until something breaks. Osteoporosis and osteopaenia are silent — no symptoms, just gradual loss of strength. A simple bone profile blood test, with bone density scanning where needed, is one of the most useful checks you can do to stay ahead.
What a bone profile measures
A small blood panel covering calcium, phosphate, alkaline phosphatase, albumin, vitamin D, and parathyroid hormone (PTH). Together they show whether bone is being built, broken down, or under stress from vitamin D deficiency, hormone changes, or an overactive parathyroid gland.
Why it matters
Picks up early osteopaenia and osteoporosis, before a fracture
Safely monitors high-dose vitamin D so you’re optimised, not over-corrected
Checks parathyroid activity, which can quietly drain calcium from bone
Flags hormone links — menopause, low testosterone, and thyroid all influence bone
Our holistic bone health service
Beyond the blood test, we offer DXA bone density and fragility scanning, near-patient testing for same-day results, remote blood testing UK-wide, and hormone and metabolic review. Our clinicians treat the whole person — history, hormones, movement, goals — not a number on a page.
Cost
A private bone profile blood test in London typically starts from around £60–£90. Extended panels and DXA scans are quoted at booking — no surprises.

FAQ
Do I need to fast?
Not for the bone profile alone. If combined with cholesterol or glucose tests, a short fast may be needed.
How long for results?
24–48 hours. Near-patient testing gives selected results the same day.
Who should consider one?
Anyone over 40, women in perimenopause or menopause, men with low testosterone, people on long-term steroids or high-dose vitamin D, those with a family history of osteoporosis, or anyone with an unexplained fracture.
Bone profile vs DXA scan?
A bone profile checks the chemistry; a DXA scan measures bone strength. They answer different questions and work best together.
Is high-dose vitamin D risky?
It can raise calcium too much if unmonitored — which is exactly why we check calcium, phosphate, and PTH alongside vitamin D.
Is osteoporosis only a women's issue?
No. It’s more common in women after menopause, but men get it too and are often diagnosed late.
Do you offer at-home testing?
Yes — remote blood testing UK-wide, reviewed by our clinicians.
